1.7 Million Pounds of Frozen Chicken Recalled

The Northern New Jersey product liability attorneys at Breslin and Breslin are reporting that Barber Foods is recalling 1.7 million pounds of its frozen chicken nationwide for possible salmonella contamination. The chicken was sold at A&P, Stop & Shop, Wegmans and Walmart stores in New Jersey.

Six related illnesses have already been reported, making this a Class I recall, the most serious classification. It is described as "a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death," according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The recall is an expansion of an earlier recall affecting frozen and raw stuffed chicken produced between February and May the company's Portland, Maine, facility.

The recall was expanded to include all associated products after two more sicknesses were reported in Minnesota and Wisconsin since the original recall on July 2, which was for 58,000 pounds of chicken, according to the USDA.

Salmonella infection, salmonellosis, can cause a number of symptoms in the first 12 to 72 hours after exposure including diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service and the company are concerned that some products are already in freezers and urges customers to check the labels, the release states.

The products affected by the recall have the number "P-276" with lot code numbers 0950292102, 0950512101, or 0951132202. The items have a use by/sell by date of April 28, 2016, May 20, 2016 and July 21, 2016

If you or a loved one suffered injuries as a result of ingesting a Barber Foods product, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses.
