Herring, Salmon Recalled Over Labeling Issue

The New Jersey product liability attorneys at Breslin and Breslin are reporting that SM Fish Corp. has recalled eight-ounce containers of Ossie's Herring in Sourcream and Ossie's Pickled Lox Dairy because of undeclared milk, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said this week.

The company also recalled eight-ounce containers of Ossie's Pickled Lox & Cream because of undeclared eggs, the FDA said in a separate announcement.

No illnesses were reported as of the time of the FDA announcements on Wednesday, but people with a milk or egg allergy are at risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they eat the products, the FDA said.

The products were distributed in New York and New Jersey retail stores and were packed in clear, plastic containers.

The herring has a UPC code of 739885114174 and the lox dairy product has a UPC code of 739885114136; they have an expiration date of 06/08/15. The lox and cream product has a UPC code of 739885104113 and an expiration date of 06/04/15.

A temporary breakdown in the company's packaging processes caused the containers to not list the sub-ingredients of the sour cream and mayonnaise used in the products, the FDA said.

If you or a loved one suffered injuries as a result of ingesting an improperly labeled food product, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses. Eligible parties may be able to recover a monetary reward for lost wages, the cost of medical bills and pain and suffering, and other damages.
