Minutes after his birth, a nurse administered eye drops to the infant to prevent eye infection. A small portion of the eye dropper feel into the infant's eye. Over the next several weeks, his eye became inflamed and corneal scarring occurred, resulting in complete blindness in that eye. The pediatrician eventually discovered the object and removed it; however, by that time the eye damage was irreversible.
